a little about me

Hey, I’m Damon. I am a musician, audio and sound engineer. I started playing music at 11 years old and have continued to do so up to the present. I attended the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in 1998. I have played in several projects over the years and have new music currently in development.

Guitar is my main instrument of choice. I enjoy playing both electric and acoustic guitar but prefer plugging a 7-string into a nicely overdriven amp. I also get down on the bass and love to jam blues and jazz on a slow groove. I dabble in a few other things but focus mainly on the above mentioned.

Metal Or Bust

Metal for me is a pure art project. Created for the sake of creation. Open to any road you would like to travel. Art is a hard sell though. But this is my passion and I have put the most into this.

Some History

I started playing metal from the very beginning and jammed with a few of bands that performed mostly hard rock and metal covers. Eventually we created some of our own songs and played shows in our small town in New Mexico. After high school I started leaning toward a heavier sound and a new band was launched. The band had some great success in the local New Mexico music scene and played a couple of radio station festival shows.

Next the band relocated to Phoenix, AZ but only played a few shows before disbanding. After teaming up with some old friends, we started a new metal project. With couple of different lineups, that project was active in the local scene for several years. We played a few packed shows including one performing between a freak show and a public body suspension.

Once the band ended I took a very long hiatus from performing music. And now that hiatus is over. Looking to make some noise again.

A Touch More Melody

Some of my older metal projects blended melodic and heavy music together. After revisiting this material several years later, I grew to think that I should let the metal be metal and give the melodic pieces a better platform to shine on. So this "Rock" project was born. With a blend of acoustic tracks, revisited ideas and some new modern touches I created a more melodic project while still keeping some of the metal influence.

Guess I have convinced myself that I can somehow front this project. Or at least be the first one to attempt it. Trying to sing songs that were not intended to be played along with an instrument is going to be an interesting situation.

Writing complete songs is a very fulfilling process for me. So I have good intentions but it will be a challenge to be able to do both together at a superior level. But I do like a good challenge.

Cover Band

Over the last few years, I was involved in a rock cover band. It's currently on a hiatus. Still working on songs for it so it's coming back at some point.

The cover band will continue to play your favorite rock tunes from the 90's and early 2000's. This will include covers from grunge era bands Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Weezer and Stone Temple Pilots. We will also continue to perform music from some of commercially successful heavier rock bands like Deftones and System Of A Down.

Wanna Jam Some Blues?

Its a fairly formal invitation. Just looking for musician folk to jam some tunes on the bluesier side. I am still holding out on conforming to blues in a traditional sense, so expect the unexpected. My rock and metal roots will always be hard pressed to hide, but I would like to explore this playing the blues as a baseline. But "jam band" style. Yea, something like that. So once some people want to jam, we will fire this thing up.

Just A Dude and His Guitar

Possibly some other instruments too. You will find information about my solo performances here. I play open mic night around the Phoenix area from time to time. I am currently working on new material so I can start booking gigs around the previously mentioned location. My set list consists of lots of 90's rock covers but I have songs from other eras in the works including some heavier rock stuff. I will also have some originals mixed in there as well.

I started playing the acoustic guitar in high school. I had been playing bass for a few years but wanted to take a turn on the guitar, because guitars are super dope. I moved on to playing electric guitar a few years later but I have always had an acoustic guitar laying around. So this project consists of those songs that have been learned and created just picking up the guitar causally at home over the years.

I have a few more talents and desires other than music. Here are few other things I am into...

Digital Solutions

This is what my career has mainly consisted of since I was a young adult. I have worked with many situations in the digital realm. It's like solving a puzzle. It's fun.

I begin building websites and learned to work with graphics and code. I started my own business and provided digital services for clients for 15 years along with working for employers as a web and software developer. I have also dabbled into a few other projects where my digital experience has helped make those projects more successful.

Here are a couple of things I have worked in:

Guitar Building

I have always wanted to build guitars. One day some inspiration came upon me and I decided to give a guitar design a shot. I worked on my first design and was successful in creating an ugly guitar concept. But it was a start and it has continued into more designs and revisions.

There are more ideas in play for future prototyping as product development continues to be active today. I have a few years and many hours invested into this and really hope to be holding my own completed guitar in my hands one day. I hope to release information about the guitars in the near future.

Content Creation

I think this is just the calling of modern times. Social media and content creation outlets are today's link to the technology hungry world we live in. And I want a piece of the action.

YouTube

One of coolest ideas behind YouTube is it can make everyday people modern day rock stars. You just have to create that magic formula to generate the millions of views. I have always been someone who would prefer a learning experience over entertainment value and YouTube is a great platform for that.

Being a musician, I plan on using YouTube as a platform to grow my music. But I am also open to creating other types of content. What might that content be? I don't know, guess we will have to figure that out.

Currently there is no channel available but there is footage waiting for the editing process.

Podcasting

I will be one of the hosts of a new metal and hard rock podcast debuting in 2020. The Metal Hour Podcast will feature a couple of resident hosts and guests. The show will run an hour or so.

The podcast will feature revolving segments of various topics. It will be a little trial and error in the beginning but I think we have some good stuff lined up.

Website and Social Media

Yes, this very website your are currently residing on. I am planning on releasing content exclusive to my website. The first content project will be my first story.

As for social media, I might something setup by now. Maybe not. I will have some cool stuff to post on social media eventually. You can find event information and other updates there as well. If I do have social media available, you can find links to those over here.
